Leona Viola Parrent, lovingly known as "Mom", "Granny," "Grandma," and "Grandma Lona," passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, at the age of 94. Born on April 12, 1931, in Bay City, Michigan, to the Leppek family, Leona lived a life filled with love, faith, and dedication to her family.

Leona graduated from St. John's Catholic School in Essexville, Michigan, in 1948. Her education laid the foundation for a life centered on faith and family values. She was raised in the Catholic tradition and devoted herself to instilling in her children a belief in Jesus. Her unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life and a source of strength for her family.

Throughout her career, Leona's work revolved around food preparation—a fitting reflection of her nurturing spirit. She began by making donuts and later joined her husband in the food service industry at Oklahoma State University. In 1985, Leona and her husband embarked on an entrepreneurial journey when they purchased "The Lantern Restaurant." Together, they owned and operated the restaurant for 11 years before retiring. Their shared dedication to their work left a lasting impression on those who knew them.

Leona was a talented craftswoman with a passion for creating beautiful things with her hands. She began by sewing clothes for her children when they were young and later expanded her skills to include knitting, crocheting, and beadwork. Her love of crafting was not only a personal joy but also a legacy she passed down to her children. Her creativity and resourcefulness were hallmarks of her character.

Family was at the heart of everything Leona did. She was a loving mother to Diane Dexter, Debbie Guy, Mike Parrent, Mark Parrent, Chris Parrent, and Leo Parrent. She cherished her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Leona's love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life—from the countless prayers she offered for them to the treasured photographs that captured their moments together. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 70 years and their son Matthew.

Leona's strength and selflessness were an inspiration to all who knew her. No sacrifice was too great when it came to supporting her family. Many nights were spent in prayer for each of her children as they navigated life's challenges—a testament to her enduring love and devotion.

Leona's legacy is one of faith, resilience, and unconditional love. Her strong spirit and role as a matriarch will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held on May 22, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 02:00 PM at Bethel Bible Fellowship, 3890 Stern Drive, Las Cruces, NM.
