Leonard (Skip) D'Orazio was born to Algesa and Skip D'Orazio in Chicago Heights, IL where he spent his childhood. He attended Mt. Carmel grade school and Marian high school. He had a strong work ethic starting when he was 12 years old, caddying at Flossmoor Country Club. He caddied for many years at Flossmoor, including several times for George Schultz, Secretary of State under Ronald Reagan. He later went on to work on the maintenance crew at Olympia Fields, which hosted several US Championships. Skip always loved golf. He not only loved playing the game, but he also loved the history of it.
Skip studied business and accounting at Marquette University. He went to work for Arthur Anderson in Milwaukee, WI immediately after he graduated. He was transferred to the Portland, OR. office where he stayed for 4 years. In 1988 he was transferred to the San Francisco office. His time with Arthur Anderson spanned over 25 years. Following his years with Arthur Anderson he held CFO positions with several private companies in and around the Bay Area.
After many years of living outside of Illinois his love for the Bears and Cubs never wavered, even with all of the painful seasons. Even more loyal as he was to the Bears and Cubs, he was loyal to his family and friends. He lived to see the Cubs win the World Series, a major highlight in his life.
Skip loved his family. His daughter Lisa, her husband Sean and their two beautiful children, Nico and Mila. He loved his son Danny, his wife Lauren, and their three beautiful children, Luca, Caden and Genevieve. For Skip life was perfect. His heart was full of love. He had just retired and was now able to be with these grandchildren more often. His needs were simple if his family was good. There is nothing he would not do for family or friends. Nothing was more important to him than his wife, children, and five beautiful grandchildren.
Skip suffered a severe heart attack on Dec. 18th after leaving his favorite place, Round Hill Country Club. He was a member of Round Hill for over 37 years. Skip formed many precious friendships and had many of his best times there. The wedding reception for his daughter and winning the Member Member golf tournament with his son were at the top of the list of his happiest times at Round Hill.
He passed away on Christmas Eve. He was deeply loved and will always remain in our hearts.
