LeRoy "Roy" Grant, age 89, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, in Washington, District of Columbia. Born on May 5, 1936, in Birmingham, Alabama, Roy lived a full and vibrant life marked by deep love for his family, an unwavering sense of integrity, and a passion for sports and music that brought joy to those around him.
A man of great character and strength, Roy was known by those who knew him as a great husband, a devoted father, and a good man through and through. He was smart and funny with a no-nonsense demeanor that commanded respect while still offering warmth and protection to those he cared about. His honesty and loving nature left lasting impressions on everyone fortunate enough to share in his life.
Roy's love for sports was legendary among friends and family. He was an avid fan of football and basketball—both the NBA and WNBA—and followed baseball closely during the playoffs. Golf held a special place in his heart whenever Tiger Woods took to the course. His enthusiasm for the games was infectious; watching sports with Roy meant lively commentary, heartfelt cheers, and insightful analysis.
Equally passionate about music, Roy had an ear for greatness across genres. From jazz to R&B, soul to rock, pop to hip hop—he appreciated it all. Music filled his home as much as laughter did, creating a soundtrack to the many memories made over the years.
Roy leaves behind his beloved wife Harriet, and four daughters Erica, Viveca, Crystal and Angro. In the final four years of his life, Roy lived with his wife Harriet, his daughter Erica, and Erica's partner Tommy. Their daily conversations and shared moments were cherished deeply and are now profoundly missed.
Roy experienced profound loss with the passing of his son Theron Grant on November 22, 2024—a sorrow that weighed heavily on him but never diminished his love or spirit.
Though he is no longer physically present, Roy's legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. His wisdom continues to guide them; his humor still echoes in their memories; his strength remains an enduring example.
May LeRoy Grant's memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A Funeral will be held on January 22, 2026, from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM at Congressional Cemetery 1801 E St SE.
