Obituary for Leslie "Budge" H. Denson
November 18, 1947 - December 24, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leslie "Budge" H. Denson, on December 24, 2025, at the age of 78. Budge was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Born on November 18, 1947, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Budge lived a life full of adventure, passion, and purpose. He was a true entrepreneur, a visionary with an unmatched ability to inspire others and encourage them to reach for their dreams.
Budge's love for the outdoors was evident throughout his life. Whether hunting, fishing, scuba diving, or caving, he was always in his element, embracing nature with a sense of wonder and discovery. He spent many years exploring and uncovering the hidden history of the world around him. His curiosity and passion for learning led him to engage in countless quests, always seeking new experiences and sharing his discoveries with those around him.
A true catalyst for others, Budge had an extraordinary gift for connecting with people. He was a visionary, always ready to engage in conversation and offer his wisdom, whether to a neighbor, a colleague, or a fellow rising entrepreneur. Budge was the kind of person who inspired others to get into business, take risks, and embrace the opportunities life had to offer.
From a young age, Budge demonstrated the hard work and determination that would define his life. At just 12 years old, he was already driving a delivery truck, showing the grit and perseverance that carried him throughout his career. He later moved to Tazewell, Virginia, where he spent 50 years of his life, drawn to the area for its proximity to the coal fields, Pittsburgh, and Washington D.C. Budge's determination led him to become a lifelong business owner mainly in the field of recycling, tirelessly pursuing his goals. His last and most memorable company, Virginia Recycling in Wytheville, Virginia enabled him to combine his love of business with his fervor for daily public interaction.
In 2020, Budge and his wife Mary Glenn moved to Wytheville, Virginia, where they enjoyed their "retirement" years. His zest for life and unwavering drive continued to inspire all who knew him. Budge's ability to embrace new challenges, live adventurously, and connect with others will leave a lasting impact on his family and friends.
Budge is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Martha Denson, and his sister, Phyllis (Denson) Busby. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Glenn; his children, Theresa Denson Huffman, Scott Denson (Leah), and Blair Burkart (Matt); his sister, Becca Denson Raysin; his brother, Bobby Denson; and his eight cherished grandchildren.
Budge's legacy is one of love, hard work, and a lifelong passion for adventure. His spirit of entrepreneurship, discovery, and connection will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Budge's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Legacy Church in Wytheville and/or Wytheville Young Life.
