Lester W. Davala Sr., 83, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, in Hudson, New York. Born on June 28, 1942, in East Brunswick, New Jersey, Lester lived a life marked by service, faith, and a deep love for music and community.
Lester shared over 60 years of marriage with his beloved wife Marian Davala. Together they built a strong and loving family that includes their sons Lester Davala Jr. (Kari) and Thomas Davala (Karen); grandchildren Jaclyn Davala (Elkin), Madison Rugg (John), Heather Davala, and Timothy Davala (Trina); and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Janet Davala and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Ruth Davala.
A man of many talents and unwavering dedication, Les served for many years as a volunteer firefighter and past Chief of Old Bridge VFD in New Jersey, an embodiment of his lifelong commitment to helping others. His passion for music began in childhood and remained a constant throughout his life. Whether playing the saxophone, singing, or performing on the keyboard, he brought joy to those around him through his musical gifts.
Lester's devotion to his faith was central to his life. As a pastor for many years, he ministered to countless individuals with compassion and sincerity. His outreach extended beyond the pulpit; he was always ready with an encouraging word or a helping hand. Known for his kindness, wit, and steadfast commitment to God, Les earned the respect of both peers and community members alike.
In addition to his ministry and music, Lester found joy in restoring Lionel trains and antiques—a hobby that reflected both his appreciation for craftsmanship and his love of history.
A private ceremony will be held by the family to honor Lester's life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to a local church, firehouse, or organization of your choice.
