Our Mom, Lieselotte Inge Unruh Austen, 85, passed away peacefully on December 17 at 5:55 a.m.
She was born on January 15, 1940, in Konigsberg, Germany, to Heinrich Adolf Unruh and Gertrud Salecker Unruh. Her early childhood was shaped by the hardships of World War II, experiences that influenced her strength and resilience throughout her life.
While serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, Clarence "Chuck" Dwayne Womack met and married Lieselotte. They had three sons: Andreas, Jochen, and Clark. Later, Lieselotte married Thomas Shadrix, and they welcomed a fourth son, Thomas. She settled in Jacksonville, Florida, where she lived for the rest of her years.
In March 1991, she married her soulmate, Paul "Bunny" Arnold Austen. Together they shared a love of gardening, and her yard was often admired for its beauty. Lieselotte had a special talent for nurturing both plants and people.
She loved her pets, especially her cat, Roxy, enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, hot cocoa, that "white stuff" you put on her fruit, and being perfectly comfortable, not too warm and not too cool. She was a devoted supporter of wildlife conservation or collecting blankets.
She is survived by her sister, Dietlinde "Poopsie" Unruh; her husband, Paul "Bunny" Austen; her sons, Jochen Womack, Clark Womack, and Thomas Shadrix; her grandchildren, Andreas Womack II, Monica Bradford, Morgan Womack, Harrison Calvert, Jakob Womack, Sofia Womack, Sean Shadrix, and Mikayla Shadrix; and her great-grandchildren, Ryon Womack and Benjamin Womack.
Mom will be remembered for her strength, determination, and devotion to her family.
The Celebration of Life will be held on February 21st, 2026 from 12 til 3 at Mandarin Senior Center 3848 Hartley Rd., Jacksonville, Fla. 32257
