Linda Mae Roy (Flint)—lovingly known as Big Momma and Lindy Lou—passed away surrounded by love and her family at the age of 78. A full-spirited, strong, and independent woman, Linda lived her life with positivity, joy, and a fearless love for people, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts, Linda was deeply proud of her roots and carried that pride with her throughout her life. She had a natural ability to make people feel welcome, seen, and cared for, often bringing laughter, light, and fun into every room she entered. Her positivity was constant, her energy contagious, and her presence unforgettable.
Linda dedicated 21 years of her early working life to the Boynton in Worcester, where she built lifelong friendships and became a beloved part of the community. Alongside her husband, Tom, she later fulfilled a dream of owning her own restaurant when they opened Lindy Lou’s, a home-style, welcoming diner on Grafton Street in Worcester. The diner reflected Linda herself—warm, friendly, comforting, and full of heart.
Retirement never truly suited Linda. She went on to work for 24 years at Sharky’s on the Pier in Venice, Florida, where she earned the nickname Big Momma. There, she became everyone’s mom—offering advice, encouragement, and kindness, while taking coworkers and customers alike under her wing. She formed deep bonds and lifelong friendships, once again becoming a cherished and familiar presence.
Linda was a passionate crafter, a talented cook, an avid traveler, and happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She loved creating, nurturing, and bringing people together. In the months leading up to her passing, Linda was in the process of returning to Massachusetts to be closer to her family—a move everyone was eagerly looking forward to.
Linda was preceded in death by her sister, Judith Houlihan; her brother, Lawrence “Larry” Flint; and his wife, Marie Flint.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Thomas Roy of Venice, Florida; her three children—Bonnie Kieler and her husband, Kevin Kieler, of Northborough, Massachusetts; Brian Roy of Northbridge, Massachusetts; and Melanie Roy of Holden, Massachusetts.
She was a proud and loving grandmother to Katelyn, Nicholas (and his wife, Christy), AbbyGaile, Logan, and Emma, a cherished great-grandmother to Alexander, and never far from her was her sidekick, Bucky.
She is survived by her sisters, Sandy Flint of Worcester, Massachusetts, and Susan Brooks and her husband, Rick Brooks, of Sturbridge, Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you perform a small act of kindness in Linda’s memory.
A celebration of life to honor Linda will be held at a later date, more details to follow.
