Linda Swan, age 84, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026 surrounded by her daughters. She was born on May 28, 1941, to Frank and Liz McIntosh, and spent her childhood in Des Moines, Iowa, where she developed the warmth, kindness, and spirited personality that would define her life.
She attended William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri, where she met the love of her life, Steve, on a blind date, beginning a lifelong partnership together. Linda and Steve lived in several cities before putting down roots in Houston, Texas. She loved being a mom to her three daughters - going to the pool, driving carpool, and cheering them on in countless sporting events. She was also a devoted fan of the Houston Oilers and cherished traveling to the beach, especially Galveston, where her father grew up. Anyone who knew Linda knew her love for Barry Manilow. Her family will always remember taking her to see Barry Manilow and watching her sing the words to every song.
Linda spent 24 years working in the front office at Ponderosa Elementary where she was the smiling face who greeted parents and students each day. She took great pride in her role and rarely missed a day of work, forming lasting connections with the teachers and families she served.
After retirement, Linda and Steve moved to Lakeway to be close to their daughters and grandchildren. She deeply loved being "Grammy," adored her pets, and embraced life in Lakeway with joy, purpose, and an incredible sense of community. No one lived more fully or joyously in Lakeway than Linda.
She was actively involved in many organizations and activities, including Lakeway Church and its Women's Ministry, the Lakeway Sing-Along, the Women's Club of Greater Lakeway, the 9-Holers and other Lakeway ladies golf groups, and Tex-Arts. Linda was also a familiar and vibrant presence in the community, participating in the Fourth of July Parade year after year and performing with Dottie's Follies, a dance group that brought entertainment and joy to many.
Her spirit of service extended beyond social activities. She volunteered at Baylor Scott & White Hospital and was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. During Steve's tenure as Mayor of Lakeway from 2005 to 2009, Linda supported him wholeheartedly and contributed her time and energy to many city events.
Linda's cheerful and enthusiastic personality was truly contagious. She had a
remarkable ability to bring people together and lift the spirits of everyone around her.
She is survived by her loving family: daughters Sallye Swan, Suzy Swan (Carolin), and Stacey Calabretta (Craig); grandchildren Sam Simpson (Molly), Sydney Simpson, Lexi Calabretta, Charlie Calabretta; and her sister, Sallye Douma. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Steve Swan, and her parents, Frank and Liz McIntosh.
Linda was a devoted mother, Grammy, and friend, and her love will continue to live on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. When you think of Linda, may you remember her beautiful smile. We take comfort in knowing she is at peace—watching over us and likely already filling her days once more with music, laughter, and dance.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lakeway Church on Friday, April 17 at 2:00 pm, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Linda's honor to the Darrell K Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer's Texas (www.dkrfund.org/donate) .
