Linda Elaine (Ciereman) Winters, of Holland MI (formerly of Grandville MI), was born February 12th, 1941 in Grand Rapids MI. On the evening of March 4th, 2026, at the age of 85, she went peacefully to be with the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Charles "Chuck/Charlie" Winters, her parents William "Bill" and Arbutus "Artie" Heath Ciereman, and her brother William F. "Bill" Ciereman, as well as several family members and friends that she loved dearly.
As a child and young mother, Linda enjoyed spending time with her extended family and her children at her parent’s cottage on Indian Lake in Ashton MI. She spent much of her life as a loving homemaker and caregiver to her family, along with many neighborhood children. She was involved in a variety of church activities and committees at St. Pius X in Grandville, helped with her oldest daughter’s Camp Fire group, and enjoyed watching her son play sports throughout his school years. She attended various dance classes and helped with ballet and tap dance recitals for her two youngest daughters. She loved long summer days out by the backyard pool and spent many weekends attending car shows with her husband. She loved to garden and, for many years, would spend days canning the fruits (and veggies) of her labor. She spent countless hours knitting and crocheting hats, scarves, baby booties, sweaters, afghans, and she always had homemade slippers ready for family and gift-giving. She loved to be in the kitchen, baking and cooking, it didn’t matter if it was for the family, a party, or just serving up snacks for all the neighborhood kids that were out by the pool.
Over the years, she enjoyed traveling all over the United States, exploring new places, visiting family and friends, and took many trips to Florida, Colorado, California, Arizona, her annual 2 week adventures to the Las Vegas area with Chuck and, of course, the many places that her children were stationed at or living. She loved coffee and dinner dates with friends, swimming, water aerobics, and Wii bowling at Evergreen Commons in Holland. For many years, she was "Chairman of the Board" for her Grandville High School Class of 1959 reunion committee, planning many reunions and even assisting with plans when she could no longer take it all on herself.
In her later years, she lived with dementia. However, she didn’t let it slow her down too much! Many wonderful conversations about her childhood were had over the past 5 years and, of course, some silly conversations too. With her son devoting his days to care for her, she was able to stay in her condo, continue to attend events, visit with friends and family, her weekly phone call with her sister, and even enjoy the occasional drive out to the beach at Holland State Park.
She will be deeply missed by her children - Connie (Ron) Breimayer of Marion MI, Rodney Winters of Zeeland MI, Carrie Driesenga of Morganton NC, Christine (Robert) Brown of Jenison MI and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren – Sarah Breimayer, Zachary (Maria and their children Olivia and Anthony) Breimayer, Amber (BJ and their children Gavin and Lucy) Thomas, Abigail Breimayer (Mitchell Minney), Grace Breimayer (her fiancé Mike Otberg), Maximillian Breimayer; Sydnie (her fiancé Adam Abernethy) Driesenga, Kelsie (her children Zakiya “peanut” and Oakland) Driesenga; Parker (Mackenzie) DeJong, Phillip DeJong, and Marina DeJong, as well as her siblings - Jeanne Sherman of Grand Haven MI, Nancy (Earl) Elias of Wheat Ridge CO, and Jim Shafer of Jenison MI, her sister-in-law JoAnn Shephard of Rogers City MI, her brother-in-law Thomas Winters of Holiday FL, and many nieces and nephews.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandma, great-grandmother "GiGi", and a caring friend who will be missed by so many.
The family will greet friends and relatives at a Celebration of Life Open House to honor Linda’s beautiful life at the American Legion Hall-Post 179 located at 2327 Wilson Avenue SW, Grand Rapids MI 49534 on Saturday April 11th 2026, from 12pm-2pm. A private graveside service will immediately follow at the Grandville Cemetery.
