Linnie Mae Vernell Hoskins-Smith, a beloved mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother, Aunty, Great-Aunty, cherished sibling and daughter of Charlotte Crudup and Layman Vernell was born April 4th 1938 in Jackson, Mississippi. Educated, honest, hardworking and cleanly; lived a fruitful life. Married at 21, she moved from Clinton, Mississippi to Superior/Kenosha Wisconsin for work at American Motors and while doing so helped put her then husband, Dr. Robert Hoskins through college. They had two children: Denise and Terrance. She was preceded in death by Charles Smith after moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin she was blessed with five grandchildren: Ngange, Sona, Brianna, Elonge and Blake; and 2 great grandchildren: Keanu-ebanja and Luna. After working for American Motors (Chrysler) for years she retired and became a crossing guard for the school system. She was the Betty Crocker of the family.
One of her favorite past times was bowling, having an average score between 200-220, she even earned a spot on the television show Bowling with the Champs! Her only regret was turning down a secretary position with IBM. Linnie Mae Vernell Hoskins-Smith died peacefully Saturday November 8th 2025 at Froedtert Hospital Menominee Falls Wisconsin USA. She was very independent, a leader and a very powerful advocate in the union propelling the working class into middle class status.

Arrangements and a memorial service have been set for Linnie‘s funeral on Monday December 1st, 11 AM at Graceland cemetery 6401 N 43rd St, Milwaukee, WI 53209.
