Lizzzie M. McCollum was born in Macon Georgia on August 3, 1944. She was second born to 3 sisters and 7 brothers. Lizzie and her family moved to East Chicago, Indiana until the late 1960's then they moved to Gary, Indiana.
In 1967 Lizzie married David Lacey and to this union they were blessed with 3 children Olivia, Julian and Lescester. In 1975 Lizzie got hired at Bethlehem Still Mill and worked there for 35 years until she retired in 2010. While working at Bethlehem Lizzie worked her way up to managing several job titles from the blast furnace, Larry car to being a lead trainer and winning several safety persons of the year awards.
She was most loved and respected by her coworkers. Later in life Lizzie married Raymond McCollum in 1998 who also worked at the Steel Mill. Besides working in the mill Lizzie and Raymond owned several rental properties and helped a lot of low-income families. She loved to travel the world in her spare time. People will remember Lizzie for having the most beautiful and biggest heart, she helped everyone, including animals. She loved life and life, loved her and she will be missed and forever loved.
Lizzie is preceded in death by her husband's David Lacey and Raymond McCollum, son Olivia Simpson and parents Jessie and Elizabeth Shelley.
She leaves behind to continue her legacy her two sons Lescester Shelly, and Julian Lacey, one granddaughter Dakieya Lacey, one brother Samson Shelly, 3 sisters Elizabeth, Mary and Gussy Shelly along with a host of nieces, nephews other relative that will never forget the impact she left on their lives
Visitation Friday, March 27, 2026, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. with a graveside service to follow at 12:30 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park 3815 West 39th Avenue Hobart, Indiana. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park.
