Loraine Jones Smith, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, took her heavenly flight on Saturday, December 13, 2025, in Atlanta, GA at the age of 74.
She was born January 8,1951 in Lodge, South Carolina to McCloud (Mack) and Anna Jones. Loraine, affectionately called “Lo,” graduated from Ruffin High School in Ruffin, SC and went on to work in the Branchville sewing factory. She held various administrative and retail positions in Atlanta that included Paradies Shops, Country Home Bakers, Athena Rehab of Clayton County, Zoo Atlanta, Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, Buckhead Transportation and New Beginning Realty.
Loraine was preceded in death by her father, Mack Jones. She is survived by her loving mother, Anna Jones, adoring husband, John Smith, and treasured son, Rodney Steward; devoted brothers and sisters: Clyde Jones, Christopher Jones, Michael Jones, Elsie Stegall, and Cheryl Jones; aunt, Dorothy Jones; sister-in-law, Vanessa Smith; stepdaughters, Ayanna Smith, Shauna Smith, and Lisa Grimes; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished loved ones. Her loving spirit touched the lives of each of them, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and joy.
She lived with an open heart, always giving, nurturing, and helping others without hesitation, leaving behind a legacy of kindness that touched everyone she met.
Public viewing is Friday, December 19, 2025, from 10:00am-8:00pm at Gus Thornhill Funeral Home at 1315 Gus Thornhill Jr. Drive, East Point, GA 30344.
Her Celebration of Life is Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 11:00am at Tri-Cities United Methodist Church (2651 Church Street, East Point, GA 30344).
