Loren Gary Cumbie, Jr, 80, of Jacksonville, Florida, entered his Heavenly home on December 7, 2025. He was born on May 17, 1945, in Panama City, Florida, to Loren and Cassie Cumbie, who preceded him in death.
Gary is survived by his sister, R.G. "Sam" Roper; his daughter, Gracie Cumbie (Sean Baez); his son, Chris Cumbie (Valerie); the mother of his children, Carol Cumbie-Brown (Trent); and his granddaughter, Aaliyah Cumbie. He is also survived by his niece, Tawnia Larson (Gary, dec.), and great-niece and nephews, David Meide Jr., Taylor Meide, and Samantha Fairbanks (Levi), along with many other cherished family members, loved ones, and beloved grand-puppies.
A proud veteran, Gary served in the United States Army. Following his service, he worked alongside his parents, owning and operating Cumbie Transmission Service Inc. for more than 30 years. Known for his exceptional work ethic and dedication, he left a lasting mark on the community he served.
Gary was a gifted musician who played the steel guitar throughout his life, blessing congregations at multiple churches with his talent. He never met a stranger—always ready with a joke, a story, or a laugh. His big personality made him the undeniable "life of the party," and his joy was contagious to all who encountered him.
He loved the Lord deeply, and he treasured his family, old western movies, a strong cup of coffee, and his cats. Those who knew him will remember his warmth, humor, generosity, and the way he made everyone feel welcome.
While his absence leaves an ache in our hearts, we rejoice in knowing he is now home with Jesus—likely riding horses, playing his steel guitar, and loving on every animal he meets.
A celebration of Gary's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Jacksonville Humane Society or your favorite animal charity.
May his laughter echo in our memories until we meet again.
