Lorraine Virginia Sarrels (née Edmunds), age 97, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, in Westmont, Illinois. Born on September 15, 1928, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Lorraine lived a long and vibrant life marked by independence, creativity, and a deep appreciation for both family and personal passions.
Lorraine was the beloved widow of James E. Sarrels and the cherished daughter of Thomas and Vera Edmunds. Throughout her life, she exemplified the strength and resilience of an independent thinker. As a working mother, she balanced her professional responsibilities with a rich array of personal interests. She found joy in gardening, ceramics, sewing, knitting, and even motorcycle riding—pursuits that reflected her adventurous spirit and creative soul.
Her love for the outdoors was evident in her retirement years when she especially enjoyed walking along the beach with Jim. Indoors, she delighted in puzzles and reading—particularly drawn to histories and mysteries that sparked her curiosity and intellect.
Lorraine's warmth and energy made her a joy to be around. Her uplifting spirit left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know her. Whether through a shared conversation or quiet companionship over a puzzle or book, she had a way of making others feel lighter simply by being present.
She is lovingly remembered by her sons James Sarrels and his wife Pam, and Robert Sarrels and his wife Colleen; her grandchildren Megan Drommerhausen and her husband Curtis, Kelly Owens and her husband Pat, and Christopher Sarrels; as well as her great-grandchildren James, Maureen, Cole and Evan.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire all who were touched by her remarkable presence.
