Louise M. LaRaia

Louise M. (Salvaggi) LaRaia, age 83, of Braintree, formerly of Quincy, died peacefully, Saturday, February 21, 2026 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Louise was born in South Quincy, to the late Anthony E. and Mary L. (Sacchetti) Salvaggi. Raised and educated in Quincy, she was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1960. She later graduated from the former Quincy Junior College as a registered nurse in 1984. Louise was a lifelong resident of Quincy and had lived in Braintree for the past four years.

Louise was married to Joseph J. LaRaia, former Mayor of Quincy, for 59 wonderful years. She was very proud to have served as the first lady of her hometown and was supportive of his 22 years of elective service.

Louise spent most of her years raising her children, but in the 1980's decided to go back to college to become a registered nurse. She began her career working at Quincy City Hospital for many years and then transitioned to William B. Rice Eventide Home in Quincy, where she made many lasting friendships. Louise later returned to Quincy City Hospital and retired in 2013.

Beloved wife of the late Joseph J. LaRaia and devoted mother of Joseph A. LaRaia and his wife Debra of Plymouth, Lisa M. Stevens and her husband Mark of Braintree, and Robyn E. LaRaia of Weymouth. Loving grandmother of Justin Stevens and his wife Briana, Jessica Stevens, Ava LaRaia, and Aiden LaRaia. Dear sister of Jean Luoni and husband Kenneth of Weymouth, and Denise Lord and her husband Robert of Quincy. Sister-in-law of Robert LaRaia of Weymouth and William LaRaia, Q.F.D Ret. and his wife Diane of Quincy. Louise is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Louise was devoted to her family, actively supporting all their many activities and accomplishments. Louise was a woman of faith and a longtime parishioner of Saint Joseph Parish in Quincy. She cherished bringing up her children and entertaining her family at their summer cottage in the upper Cape. She loved to paint, read, travel, and enjoyed trips to the casino with her sisters and daughters. Most recently, Louise loved spending time with her friends at Devon Woods playing cards, entertaining at the pool or going out to eat at many various establishments.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Thursday, February 26, from 4 - 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Joseph's Church, 550 Washington Street, Quincy, on Friday, February 27, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Wollaston Cemetery.
