LuAnn Lyon
October 10, 1954 - November 23, 2025
LuAnn Lyon, 71, of Nampa, Idaho, was surrounded by family when she peacefully took her last flight on November 23, 2025, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer and Parkinson's.
Born on October 10, 1954, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, LuAnn was the youngest of three children of Paul and Bernice Westerberg. At age three, her family moved to Idaho, where her parents purchased the Coast-to-Coast Store in Caldwell. With her siblings Dave and Barbara more than twelve years older, LuAnn liked to joke that they were practically her "Mom and Dad." She often described herself as the "terror of downtown Caldwell," roaming freely while her parents worked at the store.
LuAnn graduated from Caldwell High School in 1972 and married Scott Lyon in 1974. Shortly after, Scott joined the military, and LuAnn devoted the next 30 years to life as a military spouse. She moved 13 times across the world, collecting lifelong friends and treasured memories. Among her favorite duty stations were Germany—where her son Paul was born—and San Antonio, where her son Matthew arrived. Her support helped propel Scott's military career forward and other assignments took the family to Japan, Kansas, California, Virginia, Florida, Alabama, and Utah. After Scott's retirement as a Colonel in 2003, the couple moved to Melba, Idaho, but later divorced.
LuAnn held a variety of jobs throughout her life—veterinary assistance, office work, veterinary supply sales, and even calving heifers on the night shift—but her most life changing position turned out to be making donuts at 4 a.m. for Dan's Ferry Service in Melba. It was there she met William "Bill" Jones, a retired airline pilot, who would dramatically change her life. Moving to Sky Park with Bill in 2005 sparked a new passion for life and flying. She took flight lessons, worked for Air-O-Drome Aviation administering tests, and in 2010, proudly earned her pilot's license.
For the next decade, LuAnn and Bill traveled the world together on countless trips, joining adventures with friends from the military, high school, Sky Park, and the Ninety-Nines, a group of women pilots. She was also active with the Blue Star Mothers and annually purchased multiple flags from the Eagle Field of Honor, proudly displaying them around her home on patriotic holidays.
Despite being diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2013, Breast Cancer in 2015, and Metastatic Cancer in 2020, LuAnn faced every challenge with bravery and grace. She truly fought like a warrior.
LuAnn is survived by the love of her life, Bill Jones; her siblings Dave Westerberg (Bonnie) and Barbara Frisbie (Ed); her sons Paul (Amanda) and Matthew (Christina); grandchildren Claire, Nate, Scott, George, Logan, Lucas, Scarlet, and Noah; and many extended family members and friends she considered family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her niece, Jill Frisbie.
A graveside service is planned for Friday, January 16th, at 2:00 p.m. at Canyon Hill Cemetery, followed by an Open House at Air-O-Drome Aviation at the Caldwell Airport from 2:30pm-4:00pm. (517 Dauntless Pl Caldwell, ID 83605)
The family extends heartfelt thanks to White Oak Hospice and Angels Among Us for the compassion and care they shared with LuAnn during her final months.
