Lucie Golden

1936 - 2026

"Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die." John 11:25-26

Lucie Golden was born on October 10, 1936, in Columbus, Ohio. From an early age, she felt called to care for others - a calling that would shape her entire life. She attended Mount Carmel College of Nursing, where she earned her RN degree. It was there, while still in college, that she met the love of her life, Charlie Golden, on a blind date. That chance meeting grew into a beautiful marriage that began in 1957 and lasted more than 61 years, until Charlie's passing in 2019. Together, they built a loving family and raised three children: Kim, Mike, and Ken.

While raising their children, Lucie worked part-time as a nurse for Dr. Henry May and substituted for Dr. Oscar Johnson, always balancing her professional life with devotion to her family. In 1968, she began what would become a remarkable 57-year journey as an auxiliary volunteer at the hospital - one of the many ways she quietly and faithfully served others. Lucie also took on some unique nursing roles over the years, including working at the famous Huntsville Prison Rodeo, a story she loved to laugh about later in life, especially the time she was caring for a bull rider who became sick all over her pristine white nursing uniform.

During the 1970s and early 1980s, Lucie worked as a nurse in the Dow Oyster Creek Division medical department. She later spent more than 20 years working alongside Dr. Frank Grady, forming lasting professional relationships and continuing to do what she loved most - helping people.

Outside of her work, Lucie found great joy in traveling, both across the United States and abroad. She loved playing bridge and games with friends and family, cherishing time spent together and the laughter that came with it. A member of Lake Jackson First United Methodist Church since 1957, Lucie found strength and comfort in her faith. She especially enjoyed singing hymns and spending time with her Sunday school class friends.

When asked in a recent interview what motivated her throughout her life, Lucie answered simply and sincerely: "I just enjoy helping people in any way that I can." That statement perfectly captured who she was.

She is survived by her children Kim (Lara), Mike, and Ken (Susan). A memorial service will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Lucie asked you volunteer for a day in your community and give to the 100 Club of Brazoria County Charles Golden Memorial Scholarship Fund.
