Lucinda "Cindy" Duggan Kobusch, 78, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on November 17, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri, and lived a life filled with love, curiosity, and a sincere devotion to her family.
Cindy was the beloved daughter of Dorothy Castle Duggan and Jerome Timothy Duggan. She grew up in Kansas City and attended The Barstow School before continuing her education at Monticello College in Alton, Illinois. Cindy later graduated magna cum laude from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, where she earned a Bachelor of Psychology degree and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Her academic journey reflected her brilliant mind and insatiable curiosity, qualities that would define her throughout her life.
Family was the cornerstone of Cindy's world. She was the cherished mother of Melissa (Phil) Wait and Quint Kobusch. Her former husband and devoted caregiver, Bill Kobusch, remained an important part of her life. She was the proud grandmother of Emily (Jordan) Ray, Hannah (Blaine) Shea, and Caden Wait. Her great-grandchildren—Penelope, Greyson, and Byron—brought immense joy to her later years. Cindy also leaves behind her nephew, Jerry (Heidi) Duggan, their son Liam; her niece, Margaret (Amir) Marouni, and their children, Talia and Leah. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jerome Castle Duggan.
Cindy’s family remembers her as the most wonderful mother and daughter anyone could ask for. Her caring heart and unwavering dedication made her the center of their lives. She gave freely of herself to ensure those around her always felt supported and loved. Whether offering words of encouragement or simply being present during difficult times, Cindy’s love was a constant source of strength for those who knew her.
Her brilliance extended beyond academics; she had an endless curiosity about the world around her. Cindy fostered an environment of inquisitiveness and lifelong learning within her family. She encouraged everyone to ask questions, explore new ideas, and embrace the joy of discovery—a legacy that continues to inspire those she leaves behind.
She had a deep love for animals, especially horses. Every one of her many pets held a special place in her heart and was truly part of the family. She enjoyed attending the American Royal Horse Show and Rodeo and was able to live out her dream of having her horses right in her own backyard. Those years, surrounded by the animals and people she loved so dearly, were among the times she treasured most.
Later in life, Cindy moved to Wichita to be closer to her grandchildren. She played an active role in their lives, sharing countless adventures with them and creating memories they will treasure forever. Her presence brought warmth and joy to their daily lives as she surrounded them with unconditional love.
Her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched with kindness, wisdom, and compassion. May those who knew Cindy find comfort in remembering the extraordinary woman she was- a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend; a beacon of love for all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, consider honoring Cindy’s memory by supporting the ASPCA or spending time with loved ones, just as she would have wanted. A funeral service will be held on April 10, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi in the Pines, 17890 Metcalf Avenue, Stilwell, Kansas.
