Lynda L Ewell

1960 - 2026

Lynda Ewell, 65, passed away on April 2, 2026, in Nyack, New York. After suffering complications from brain surgery, she faced these with the same grit and determination she carried through life. Born August 24, 1960, Lynda spent most of her years in Columbiaville, Michigan, before eventually making her way to Albany, New York—bringing her personality, strength, and unmistakable presence with her wherever she went.

Lynda was preceded in death by her brother, Tommy; stepbrother, David; her mother, Jackie; and her beloved husband, Gary—the love of her life.

She leaves behind a family who will carry her love, strength, and spirit forward: her stepfather, Leon (Brenda) Schrecengost; her children, Jill (Bruce) Barnett and Patrick (Michelle) Ewell; her siblings, Lisa (Marc) Thomas, Randy Guadagno, Susan Farmer, and Ken Myers; her grandchildren, Carlie (DJ), Jack (Riley), Summer, and Marlowe; and her treasured great-grandson

On August 26, 1978, in California, Lynda married Gary Ewell and from the very beginning, their love was undeniable. Together, they shared the kind of relationship people admire and hope to find—full of devotion, laughter, and a deep, steady bond. They were truly a perfect match, and to those who knew them, it was clear they belonged together. Gary was Lynda's whole world—her partner, her safe place, and the greatest love of her life.

Later in life, Lynda attended college while working full time and raising two children. It wasn't easy, but she was determined. She earned her bachelor's degree in Anthropology from the University of Michigan-Flint, and it meant the world to her that her children could see her walk across that stage. She attended classes alongside her daughter Jill and with Gary proudly by her side. Patrick was still young but loved tagging along to class with Mom. Education was always something Lynda valued deeply, and she made sure her children knew how important it was to keep learning, no matter where life took them.

Lynda poured her heart into her children's education and became a familiar, trusted face in the school community—always volunteering, always showing up, and always ready to lend a hand wherever she was needed. Lynda dedicated many years to LakeVille Community Schools, where she worked as a paraprofessional supporting special needs students. She retired in 2020, leaving behind a lasting impact on the students and families she served. She was loved and respected by all who had the privilege of working with her.

Lynda had a love for music of every kind and always seemed to have a tune in her head. She was an avid sports fan, especially football, and proudly cheered for the Detroit Lions and the Michigan Wolverines. She found comfort in cool rainy days, reading, crocheting, and watching her favorite shows. Lynda brought laughter and light wherever she went. She was bold, bright, and full of life—always willing to lend a hand and never afraid to be herself. Whether she was singing off-key, mixing up the lyrics, or simply being her unapologetically joyful self, she made the world around her better. Lynda cared deeply for others, inspired many, and will be missed beyond words.

Above all else, Lynda was a devoted and proud mother and grandmother. Her children were her world, and her grandchildren were the light of her life. Carlie reminded Lynda how to slow down and live with compassion and kindness. Jack touched her sensitive side and was affectionately known as her "favorite grandson," always reminding her to be gentle and caring. Summer was her ray of sunshine, keeping Lynda young at heart with her spunky, wild spirit—so much like Lynda herself. Marlowe, arriving a bit later to the "grandkids club," gave Lynda the chance to slow down and truly savor each moment. Lynda was incredibly proud of each of her children and grandchildren, and her love for them was endless.

Though she is no longer with us, she is not truly gone—her love, laughter, and strength will remain in the hearts of everyone who knew her. Her legacy will continue through the lives she touched and the family she loved so deeply.

A celebration of Lynda's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor her memory by sharing a story, offering a helping hand to someone in need, or simply living life with the same boldness and warmth that she carried every day.
