Lynda Jeanne Birdsong Douglas, age 83, of Spanish Fort, Alabama, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025. Born on October 15, 1942, Jeanne lived a life defined by curiosity, service, and a deep commitment to education.

Jeanne was a highly respected educator whose career spanned over 40 years. Teaching in multiple states, including Ohio, Connecticut, Tennessee, Illinois, and Alabama, Jeanne dedicated her professional life to gifted education. She was especially passionate about cultural geography, politics and civil responsibility, inspiring generations of students to think critically about the world around them.

Beyond the classroom, Jeanne was an avid traveler who explored and scuba dived in many parts of the world. She also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and found great joy in connecting with people and in the love she shared with her family, friends and beloved pets.

Jeanne is survived by her cherished sisters, Becky Nelson and Nancy Westfall, and their precious families, her devoted children, Noel and Ryan, her adored grandchildren, Kat, Max and Anna, and her dear friend and companion, James Matthews. Jeanne was preceded in death by her loving husband of more than four decades, Gerald Reid Douglas.

Jeanne will be remembered for her exceptional charm and intellect, and her unwavering belief in the power of education to shape thoughtful, engaged citizens. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched as a mother, teacher, grandmother, aunt, and friend.

A private service will be held in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, at a later date.
