Ruby Nellynn "Lynn" Percivall passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 surrounded by her family.
Lynn was born on December 29, 1937, in Clarksville, Virginia, where she attended nursing school and fulfilled her calling to care for others by becoming a registered nurse. She began her career at Tucker Psychiatric Hospital, where her compassion, calm demeanor, and strong work ethic quickly set her apart. Because of her exceptional skill and dedication, she was entrusted with caring for patients on the most critical ward.
It was there that Lynn met the love of her life and soulmate, John Shell Percivall, who worked as an orderly at the hospital. They were married in 1958 and soon relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina, where they built a joyful life together and raised their two sons, John Shell and Michael Warren.
In Raleigh, Lynn discovered a new passion within her profession and worked as a scrub nurse for a local general surgeon. Her attention to detail, steady hands, and unwavering commitment to patient care made her an invaluable part of the surgical team. Later, she retired from nursing to work alongside her husband in their business, Percivall Advertising.
After John's passing in 1990, Lynn's strength and devotion to family never wavered. When their son John took over the company, Lynn continued to play a pivotal role, assisting with daily operations and overseeing finances, offering wisdom and support until well into her later years.
Above all else, Lynn loved her family deeply. She was a devoted mother, a proud and loving grandmother "Nanny" to Kelly Sutton (husband Drew) and Kasey Jacobson (husband Collin), and a cherished great-grandmother to Harper, Hollynn, Finn, Emme, Beckett, Julia, and John. Her presence brought warmth, steadiness, and unconditional love to every generation.
Lynn had a lifelong love of reading and amassed an extensive collection of action and thriller novels, particularly those centered on military tactics and snipers. Music also brought her great joy, especially classic country, and she could often be found listening to her favorite artists, George Jones and Ronnie Milsap.
Lynn will be remembered for her compassionate heart, quiet strength, sharp mind, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, both personally and professionally. She had a lifelong love for animals and found endless comfort and joy in their companionship. Nowhere was that love more evident than in her devotion to her former chocolate lab, Percy, who was truly her constant companion and cherished friend after losing her husband. Percy brought her daily happiness, laughter, and comfort, and she, in turn, gave him unwavering love and care. Their bond was a reflection of her kind heart and deep compassion for all living creatures.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the SPCA, in honor of her enduring love for animals.
