Lynne Sharon Lipscomb Brumit, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from dementia and declining health in Westport, CT.
Lynne was born September 20, 1933, in Visalia, California to Duke Simpson Lipscomb and Zelma Evelyn Frye. Lynne graduated from Visalia Union High School (now Redwood HS) as class Valedictorian in 1951 and was the statewide CA Bank of America award winner in high school for scholastic proficiency and leadership. Lynne then attended Pomona College before receiving her summa cum laude BA degree at Fresno State College in 1968. In 1975 Lynne received her teaching credential and in 1977 completed her Master of Arts in the Department of Education at CA State University, Fresno. In 1981 Lynne received her lifetime Elementary School Administration credential and for many years was a principal at several Visalia Unified elementary schools. Lynne was also Tulare County Principal of the Year in 1989.
Lynne married Philip David Brumit of Marshall, Missouri in Visalia, CA on July 24, 1954.
Lynne is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Mitchell Brumit (Lisa) of Laguna Niguel, CA and Brian Douglas Brumit (Karol) of Westport, CT; three grandchildren, Kevin Brumit (Laura), Alissa Brumit Gury (Dan), Corrinne Brumit Taubman (Alex) and six great grandchildren with another on the way. Lynne is also survived by her brother, Lance Lipscomb (Michael) of Rancho Mirage, CA. Lynne is predeceased by her ex-husband Philip (LT Col US Army) and her parents. In retirement Lynne volunteered her time, talents and resources to many educational organizations, libraries and animal shelters. In the final years of her life, she moved to Westport, CT and was a regular attendee at the United Methodist Church and the Westport library. Lynne loved nothing more than to be with her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren having had many wonderful days in their presence.
A memorial for Lynne will be held in Visalia, CA at a later date.
