Madelyn Carlton Jones, 84, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, entered her heavenly home from the comfort of her own home on December 28, 2025. She was born in Goodwater, Alabama on May 25, 1941, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timmons Carlton.

Madelyn was a graduate of Goodwater High School and continued her education at Auburn University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Home Economics Education. Soon thereafter, she began a life with her husband of over 60 years, Albert Pendleton "Bert" Jones. Madelyn later earned a Master of Science degree in Consumer Sciences at The University of Alabama where she was an avid supporter of the College of Human Environmental Sciences.

Madelyn's greatest love was for her husband Bert, closely followed by the deep love she held for her three boys, Al, Tim and Kevin. Madelyn was her sons' greatest cheerleader - encouraging them with both a loving heart and, when needed, a firm and guiding voice.

Madelyn's calling to teaching and service was evident throughout her career. She touched the lives of countless students during her years teaching Home Economics at Brookwood High School, many of whom remained in contact with her long after leaving her classroom and considered her a mentor. Her career in Family and Consumer Sciences continued when she became a Family and Consumer Sciences specialist with the State of Alabama Department of Education. She played a significant role in the development of curriculum in Family and Consumer Sciences. Madelyn showed her commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Alabama citizens by serving clients in the Tuscaloosa County and surrounding areas through the State of Alabama Department of Vocational Rehabilitation as a low-vision specialist. She continued her lifelong commitment to service by joining the Liz Moore Low Vision Center at St. Vincent's East in Birmingham as director. She developed monthly support group meetings, luncheons and counseling for many visually impaired in the Birmingham area. Madelyn was well known and active at the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind in Talladega. She served her clients and patients with passion, patience, and dedication, while considering them as her friends.

Madelyn was also widely known and dearly loved for her exceptional cooking and generous hospitality. Her home was a place where love was freely given, meals were always plentiful, and no one ever left without a full heart, a satisfied appetite, and a heartfelt goodbye.

Madelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Pendleton "Bert" Jones; her parents, Timmons "Tim" Carlton and Nettie Pearl Carlton; her siblings, Ruth Dark, Cecil Carlton, Noba Dugard, Audy Hayes, Dayne Carlton, Joan Hardman, and Betty Caldwell.

She is survived by her sons, Albert Pendleton "Al" Jones, Jr., Timmons Malone "Tim" Jones, Kevin Carlton Jones (Robin); She was lovingly known as "Meme" to her two grandchildren, Kevin Carlton Jones, Jr. (Julia) and William Malone "Will" Jones (Samantha); two great-grandchildren John Houston Jones and Carlton McClain Jones; her step grandchildren, Ashleigh Jones, Justin Jones (Katie), and Brett Jones; her step great-grandchild, Jay Ceullar; as well as her beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Saint Mark's Church Northport. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Bo Lloyd officiating. A graveside burial service for both Madelyn and Bert Jones will follow at the Mesopotamia Cemetery in Eutaw, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama in Madelyn's memory, in gratitude for the time, compassion and heart she devoted to volunteering there.
