It is with heavy hearts that we announce the recent passing of our beloved Matriarch, Marcine Karon, at the age of 98 years young.

Marcine was the proud daughter of Greek immigrants, James and Cleopatra (nee Babalas) Karon. She was predeceased by her brothers, Angelo and Peter, sister Julie and her devoted son, Jamie. She is survived by her sister, Christine.

Marcine was a lifelong resident of the Central Square area of Cambridge, surrounded by a very large and close-knit family of cousins and their numerous children and grandchildren. She attended Cambridge Latin High School and The New England Conservatory of Music. She was a fervent parishioner of Saints Constantine and Helen Church and spent decades there teaching religious education. She loved all genres of music, dancing and high fashion. She enjoyed travel with her children and friends and was a voracious reader.

Marcine was adoring mother to Karen Nearhos Kosko (John Kosko), the late Jamie Nearhos (Terry) and Jody Nearhos (Maureen Trant). She was Yiayia (Grandmother) to her precious grandchildren Andrew Kosko (Lina), Alexandra Nearhos (George Guzman) and Nick (Jessica) and Kristi Nearhos. She was "Yiayia Mou" (most beloved great grandmother) to the lights of her life Miah, Emilia and Angelo Kosko and Avanthia and Aliyah Nearhos.

We shall keep her delightful, witty personality, grace and style and devotion to family and God forever in our hearts and souls.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to her extraordinary caretakers, Lucy Kairumba and Teddy Nakibinge, who cared 24/7 not only for Yiayia but for all of us. Without them, Marcine would not have been with us in all of her glory. They truly became our family.

According to her wishes, Final Services were held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the church in her honor.
