Margaret Ann "Peggy" McDermott

1934 - 2026

Margaret Ann (Peggy) McDermott, 92, passed away on March 2, 2026, in Aledo, Texas, surrounded by her family. Peggy was born in Twin Falls, Idaho. Her family eventually settled in Bremerton, Washington, where she lived until college. Peggy graduated from Marylhurst College, near Lake Oswego, Oregon, with a degree in Art. Marylhurst was the first all-women’s college in the Pacific Northwest.

After graduation, Peggy moved to Washington, D.C., where she accepted a job with the CIA and took a tour in Italy. After returning to the States, Peggy married her husband of 56 years, Frank J. McDermott. Together, they built a life that was anything but small. They traveled the world while raising four children. Peggy had strong opinions, a sharp eye, and a deep appreciation for art and culture. She lived a full life – one shaped by curiosity, independence, and a deep desire to see the world beyond her own backyard.

After their marriage, Peggy and Frank raised their family in Bowie, Maryland, before settling in Ocean Pines, Maryland. In her later years, Peggy relocated to Texas.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Berniece and Mike Burns, her brother Ted, and her beloved husband Frank. She is survived by her children, Lynne DeRossett (Donald), Michele Darwin (Scott), Greg McDermott (Kathy), Sean McDermott, and 11 grandchildren (Jacob DeRossett, Nikki Law, John Darwin, Peter Darwin, Griffin McDermott, Grady McDermott, Keelin McDermott, Brecken McDermott, Lauren Rozen, Katie McDermott and Megan McDermott), along with five great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Peggy later this year at Arlington National Cemetery, where she will be interred with her husband Frank. (Date TBD)
