Margaret Foote Siverts, 93, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, in Walnut Creek, California. Born on January 8, 1932, in Gardena, California, Margaret lived a vibrant and full life marked by deep devotion to her family, a passion for teaching, and an enduring zest for adventure.
Margaret's journey of learning and love began at the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned her Bachelor's degree and teaching credential. It was there that she met the love of her life, Truman Siverts. They married in 1953 and shared a long and joyful life together until Truman's passing on February 10, 2009. Their bond was one of mutual respect and shared passions—especially their love for travel and the great outdoors.
A dedicated educator, Margaret spent most of her professional life teaching at Pinehaven School in Concord, California. Her work with handicapped children left a lasting impact not only on her students but also on their families. Her compassion and commitment changed countless lives over the years.
Margaret is survived by her four children: son Jon and daughters Katrina, Christine, and Judith (Bryan). She also leaves behind two grandchildren and one great-grandchild who brought her immense joy. Her extended family—including close cousin Michael J. Farlow, and nephews, and nieces—will miss her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her beloved siblings Kenneth, Thelma, and Caroline. Their memory remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Margaret was a woman of many talents and interests. A gifted pianist and exceptional knitter, she also found joy in playing bridge and fly fishing—pursuits that reflected both her intellect and adventurous spirit. She cherished time spent camping with Truman and their children across nearly all of the U.S. National Parks; their favorite destinations were nestled in the high Sierra. In retirement, Margaret and Truman continued exploring together on road trips across the country and even embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime cruise around the world.
After Truman's passing, Margaret spent several years in Berkeley before settling into what she fondly called her "cruise ship on land"—the Waterford at Rossmoor. There she embraced a new chapter filled with independence, community activities, and new friendships while remaining close to family.
Margaret loved growing roses in her garden, preparing cherished family recipes, sipping Zinfandel wine with friends old and new—and above all else—spending time with those she loved. Her exuberance for life was infectious; she was kind-hearted, generous with her time and spirit, loyal to those around her, and grateful for every friendship she made along the way.
In accordance with Margaret's wishes, no formal services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano—a cause close to her heart.
Margaret Foote Siverts lived each day with purpose and joy. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched as a teacher, friend, mother, grandmother—and as a woman who truly lived life to its fullest. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
