We remember Margaret (Maggie) Jean Carpenter Nofsinger—a woman who laughed often, spoke her mind, and never missed a chance to enjoy the moment. She left us on December 17, 2025, but the stories she sparked continue around every kitchen table and every friendly corner of Wisconsin she called home.
Maggie came of age in Wonewoc, graduating in 1958, and carried that small-town grit into every job she held—from Carpenters Bar in Hillsboro to Dumore in Mauston, Hayes Brake in Mequon, and Eagle Cleaning in New Berlin. Work was where she made friends, kept her jokes sharp, and took pride in a job done right.
She was a fiercely loving mom to Richard Morton II and Phillip M Graham, and she opened her heart wide to her adopted family: David Krueger, Joe Socolick, Laura Socolick, and Sara Jung. In recent years, her faithful companions—Cooper, Tasha, and Gemma—were never far from her side, reminding her (and all of us) that love is made of everyday moments.
Family meant everything: those still with us—William (Bill) Carpenter; Robert Carpenter (Joanne Carpenter); Lorna Carpenter (Maureen Woulfe); Cookie Hotek; and the many brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who shared her life. And those we miss alongside her—Clifford and Marie Carpenter, Laura Carpenter, Clifford Jr. Carpenter, John and Mary Carpenter, Lyle (Buck) and Violet (Vi) Carpenter, Rosie and Phil Bauer, Dutch Baca, and Betty and Jim Solchenberger.
If you knew Maggie, you knew her zest: a friendly wager, a Miller Lite shared with good company, and a sharp-witted conversation that ended in laughter. She taught us to show up for friends, to live with humor, and to squeeze joy from ordinary days.
