Margaret Moore Nelson, age 94, passed away peacefully at her home in St. Petersburg, Florida, on February 25, 2026.
Margaret was born on October 12, 1931, in Erie, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Frank and Jane Moore and sister of Richard Moore. She spent most of her life in Erie, where she built lasting friendships and devoted herself to education, family, and community.
She earned her teaching degree from Thiel College and later obtained a master's degree from Edinboro University. Margaret devoted her career to teaching including many years at McDowell High School, where she influenced and encouraged countless young people.
Margaret married Harold Thomas Nelson, and together they raised two sons whom she loved dearly. Following her retirement, she moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where she enjoyed many happy and peaceful years.
She had a deep love for the water and treasured many days spent at Presque Isle State Park and boating with family in the Erie Bay. She was a supporter of the U.S. Brig Niagara and volunteered in its gift shop.
Margaret enjoyed camping with friends at Blue Water Beach Campground, where she spent time relaxing working around her trailer, sitting by campfires, sharing wine, and enjoying lively conversations. She was an avid reader and a lifelong learner who maintained a deep curiosity about the world around her.
She especially cherished her grandson, Wade Nelson, and took great interest in his life, particularly the home and garden he shared with his wife.
She is survived by her sons, Bill (wife Linda) and Dale; her grandson, Wade Nelson (wife Catherine); and her niece Susan Moore and nephew Steve Moore and their families.
Honoring Margaret's wish to "bow out gracefully," no memorial service is planned.
Margaret will be remembered for her warmth, curiosity, and the quiet kindness she showed to those around her.
