Margaret "Peggy" Remsnyder, 89, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, in San Diego, California. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of the La Jolla community, Peggy's life was marked by devotion to family, education, and the vibrant social fabric of her adopted hometown.
Born Margaret Cooper on May 26, 1936, in Rutherford, New Jersey, Peggy pursued her education at Skidmore College. In 1958, with a spirit of adventure and a heart full of promise, she moved to La Jolla sight unseen to begin her career as a physical education teacher at The Bishop's School. It was a bold move that would shape the rest of her life.
In 1959, Peggy married Duane C. Remsnyder, the love of her life. Together they built a home and raised their family in La Jolla—a town that quickly became central to Peggy's identity. Over the next five decades, she immersed herself in the community with warmth and enthusiasm. Whether through friendships formed on the tennis courts or afternoons spent playing bridge and golf at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club and the La Jolla Country Club, Peggy cultivated deep connections that enriched both her life and those around her.
Her faith was also an important part of her life. As a member of La Jolla Presbyterian Church, Peggy found spiritual grounding and fellowship that sustained her through life's joys and challenges.
Peggy is survived by her children: Leslie Hodgson, Craig Remsnyder, and Scott Remsnyder; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Duane C. Remsnyder and her brother William T. Cooper.
Peggy's legacy lives on in the lives she touched—through family ties that span generations and through decades of friendship and service to the community she so dearly loved. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
