MARI DAGHIGHI RUCHI

Mari Daghighi Ruchi passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, in Tehran, Iran. She was born in the rice farming village of Ghafari Bridge in the Province of Mazandaran in 1935. The village was named after her maternal uncle, Basheer Ghafari, who was the headman of the village. Her parents, Bibi and Gholam Hossain Moradi, were landowners and rice farmers.

Mari was the third oldest child of nine children, five sisters, and three brothers. She also had a larger ancestral family that resided in the same village. After elementary school, Mari convinced her parents to let her go to high school with her male cousins in Babol, the capital of Mazandaran. Mari was the only girl from the village who was able to study in high school at that time.

Mari met Mostafa Daghighi Ruchi at the early age of 16, and with the permission of her parents, they were married a year and a half later. The couple moved to Tehran, where Mostafa was working, and started a family in a modest home in the southern part of Tehran. Their first son was born a year later, and Mostafa started his job at the Iranian National Bank shortly after. They had three other children, two sons and one daughter. She named all the children after characters from the stories in The Shahnameh (King's Letter). Mari was instrumental in her children's education. She taught them to have love and compassion for others and to show kindness to all people.

Mari loved music and poetry. The radio was always on, and she would sing along as she did house chores while the children played. She enjoyed traveling and being with family and friends. She was a loving mom and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy.

Mari was preceded in death by her husband, Mostafa, of 61 years in 2014; her sisters, Iran, Turan, and Moluk, and her brother, Mohsen. She is survived by her children Faramarz, Fariborz (Faye), Farzad (Pamela), and Fariba (Hamid); her grandchildren, Ramin, Hope Mari, Erin Mari, Pegah (Nima), Rojin, Luke, and Lyle; her sisters, Mahjaveen and Mina; her brothers, Adel and Shahrokh; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who cherished her.

Mari, we love you and can still hear you saying "maan beeshtar" because you always loved us more and more.
