Maria del Carmen Gonzalez, age 86, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, in New York, New York. Born on March 25, 1939, in Santiago, Dominican Republic, Carmen lived a life filled with creativity, color, and deep devotion to her family.

The fifth child of Jose Manuel Gonzalez and Efigenia Peña, Carmen grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. Her vibrant spirit and joyful presence left an indelible mark on those around her. She was deeply loved by everyone fortunate enough to meet her and brought warmth and brightness into every room she entered.

Carmen's greatest joy in life was celebrating her family. She was present for countless milestones and memories—always offering support, laughter, and love. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched with her generous heart and spirited nature.

She is survived by her beloved siblings: Maria Mercedes, Jesus Maria, Jose Rafael, Manuel Fernando, Jose Maria, Maria Josefina, and Mercedes Maria Gonzalez Montesino. Carmen also leaves behind a large extended family of nieces and nephews who cherished her dearly. The family holds special gratitude for Jowen Pichardo, Carolina Pichardo, Lyanna Breton, Max Breton, Joel David Nuñez, and Melba de Jesus Gonzalez for their unwavering presence and care during her final moments.

Carmen is now reunited with those who went before her: Victor Manuel Gonzalez, Maria Celina Gonzalez, Maria Luisa Gonzalez, and Gonzalo Rafael Ozoria Gonzalez.

Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her. May the love she gave so freely live on in the hearts of those she held dear. A Viewing will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 05:00 to 08:00 PM at the R. G. Ortiz Funeral Home on 4425 Broadway. Mass will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Our Lady Queen Martyrs on 91 Arden Street, New York, N.Y. The Burial will be held shortly after at at 11:00 AM in Maple Grove Park Cemetery in Hackensack, N.J.
