Maria Pilar Carrillo

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Pilar Carrillo Del Campo Chavarri, who departed this life on January 1, 2026, at the age of 79.

Pilar was born on November 22, 1946, in Bilbao, Spain, to Jose Maria Del Campo and Pilar Chavarri, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband of more than five decades, Hector Carrillo; her sons, Alcides Carrillo (spouse Caitlin Aingé) and Raul Carrillo (spouse Erin Carrillo); and her cherished grandchildren, Daphne Rei, Chloe, Noah, Joseph, Gretchen, and Ximena, who were joys in her life. She is also lovingly remembered by many extended family members in both the United States and the Basque country in Spain.

Pilar attended the Sorbonne in Paris, where she met Hector. They were married in Spain on February 15, 1971, before moving to the United States, where they spent the next 50 years building a life together. Pilar dedicated her professional career to public service, working for the Department of Health and Human Services, specifically within SAMHSA, as a Grants Management Specialist.

Outside of her work, Pilar found her greatest happiness in time spent with her grandchildren and tending to her garden, both reflections of the care and patience she showed throughout her life.

She will be deeply missed and remembered with gratitude and love. We are thankful for the time we had with her.

A Funeral Mass in celebration of Pilar's life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 4900 Strathmore Avenue, Garrett Park, MD. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance. Interment will take place in Spain at a later date.

Con profunda tristeza anunciamos el fallecimiento de María Pilar Carrillo Del Campo Chavarri, quien partió de este mundo el 1 de enero de 2026, a los 79 años de edad.

Pilar nació el 22 de noviembre de 1946 en Bilbao, España, hija de José María Del Campo y Pilar Chavarri, quienes la precedieron en la muerte.

Le sobreviven su esposo de más de cinco décadas, Héctor Carrillo; sus hijos, Alcides Carrillo (esposa Caitlin Aingé) y Raúl Carrillo (esposa Erin Carrillo); y sus queridos nietos, Daphne Rei, Chloe, Noah, Joseph, Gretchen y Ximena, quienes fueron una gran alegría en su vida. También es recordada con cariño por numerosos familiares en los Estados Unidos y en el País Vasco, España.

Pilar cursó estudios en la Sorbona de París, donde conoció a Héctor. Contrajeron matrimonio en España el 15 de febrero de 1971 y posteriormente se trasladaron a los Estados Unidos, donde pasaron los siguientes 50 años construyendo una vida juntos. Pilar dedicó su carrera profesional al servicio público, trabajando para el Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos, específicamente en SAMHSA, como Especialista en Gestión de Subvenciones.

Fuera de su trabajo, Pilar encontró su mayor felicidad en el tiempo compartido con sus nietos y en el cuidado de su jardín, reflejo del cariño y la paciencia que demostró a lo largo de su vida.
Será profundamente extrañada y recordada con gratitud y amor. Agradecemos el tiempo que pudimos compartir con ella.

Una Misa Funeral en celebración de la vida de Pilar se celebrará el sábado 31 de enero de 2026, a las 11:00 a. m., en la Iglesia Católica Holy Cross, ubicada en 4900 Strathmore Avenue, Garrett Park, MD. Familiares y amigos están invitados a reunirse en su memoria. La inhumación tendrá lugar en España en una fecha posterior.
