Marice Faye Richardson
January 30, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marice Faye Richardson, a beloved member of the Thomasville and Americus communities, who unexpectedly passed away on January 30, 2026, at the age of 85. Born January 27, 1941 in Meridian, MS, she was the first of two daughters born to A.N. and Marjorie Brown who both preceded her in death.
Marice graduated from the University of Mississippi and later acquired her master's degree from Mississippi State University as an educator. Initially teaching in Meridian, MS, she and the family migrated to Thomasville, GA in 1976. She was a dedicated math teacher from 1963 years until her retirement in 2000. Through her career, she mentored students teaching grades 7-12. Her infectious passion for teaching spilled over to her daughter Dr. Marnie Dutcher, who after teaching for many years now serves as principal for Sumter County High School.
Marice and Gene traveled the country since retirement and shared many great memories with close friends and family. Her personality was larger than life and she knew no strangers. She was gifted with a spark that attracted and delighted those around her. She was a bright light in the lives of her family, friends, and past students. Her spirit will be missed dearly by all.
Her survivors include her husband of 43 years, Gene Richardson; children Marnie Dutcher (Keith) of Americus and Mark Harmon (Brenda) of Thomasville, GA; Sister Cheryl Hastings (Al) of Hartford, AK; Grandchildren Griffin Toms of Americus, Jake Dutcher of Americus, Kursten Dutcher of Americus; Nephews Dr. Don Howard of Jonesboro, AK, Todd Howard of Valdosta GA, and Daniel Hastings of Rogers, AK.
