Marilyn Joy Herrndobler

Marilyn Herrndobler passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026 at the age 86.

Born Marilyn Joy Hockinson on August 17, 1939 in Chicago to John and Isabelle Hockinson, as the youngest of three sisters she held the nickname “babe” given to her by her father. The family settled in Chicago Ridge, IL where she and her two older sisters helped build the family home. In her late teen years she met and fell in love with Jack Tinberg with whom she had two boys, David and Andrew. After 13 years of marriage Jack passed away in 1971 leaving Marilyn a young widow with two boys. Soon she met and married her second husband Robert Herrndobler at their Lutheran church.

Together they raised her two sons and his four children, Kay, Tim, Steven and Beth in Homewood IL. Marilyn and Bob were married for 35 years until his passing from cancer in 2013 and share thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

In her later years Marilyn was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Palos Heights IL, actively involved with her friends and church community, and continued to enjoy her children and grandchildren until she started showing signs of Alzheimer’s in 2020. Marilyn lived her final years in memory care.

Throughout her life Marilyn was an avid baker, gifted writer and artist, loved dancing, reading and traveling the country in her RV. She was truly a joy to be around and will be missed greatly by her family and friends. We are comforted knowing her body and mind are now fully restored in the arms of her Heavenly Father.

A celebration of life will be held at Christian Life Center, 3409 Grove Avenue Berwyn, IL, on May 2nd, 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM.
