Marilyn (Havens) Shaver, age 86, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on January 22, 2026, in Sarasota. Marilyn was born on February 5, 1939, in Elwood, Indiana, to Alfred S. Havens and Dorothy (Traylor) Havens, of Tipton, Indiana. She married Jim Shaver in 1959, and he survives. Marilyn and Jim lived in Bedford, Indiana, for over 50 years and moved to Sarasota in 2019.

Marilyn graduated from Tipton High School and Indiana University. She had an undergraduate degree from IU in Speech Pathology and Audiology and a graduate degree in Library and Information Science. She was a past member of Pi Lambda Theta education honorary, the American Speech and Hearing Association, and the American Library Association.

Marilyn worked briefly as a speech and hearing therapist in Lawrence County, Indiana, and later worked at IU-Bloomington for 20 years in the IU Libraries and University Human Resources departments. She retired from IU in 2002.

Marilyn loved to travel, and after her retirement she visited over 20 countries. She also enjoyed reading and painting. But what she loved most was spending time with her family on holidays and annual family trips.

Survivors include her husband, Jim; daughter, Debra O'Leary; sons, Jeff (Kimberly) Shaver, Tom Shaver, Michael Shaver; sister, Nancy (Richard) Covely; grandsons, Devin O'Leary, Johnathon Shaver, Nicholas Shaver, Daniel Shaver; and their mother, Sally Shaver. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Don.
