Marjorie was born on September 11, 1926, to Robert and Marjorie Carr Jamison. She died on March 31, 2026, at the age of 99. She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and lived there until her marriage. She graduated from Laurel School in Cleveland, going on to Smith College where she graduated in 1948 with a degree in Architecture and Landscape Architecture. After college she lived at home in Cleveland and worked as a draftsman for the Cuyahoga County (Cleveland) Planning Commission.

She married her husband Henry (Doug) Douglas (1924-2006) in 1951. They lived in Willoughby, Ohio, Versailles, Ohio, Harrisburg, PA and finally New Jersey, where they resided for 20 years. During these years, Marjorie was continually active in volunteer work, volunteering for 18 different charities.

In 1981, their life went in a completely different direction when they founded the company Douglas House, Inc. They bought a large property in Rockland County with a 1756-era house and two barns. They gutted the house and completely remodeled and retrofitted it for use as a location for still photography, television and movie shooting. The house contains movable walls, a makeup room, kitchen cabinets that can be changed out, and many other features for production, and was the first and still the only location of its kind.

After moving to Rockland County NY on the site of the business, she continued her volunteer work with her beloved church, Palisades Presbyterian, as an Elder, Deacon, member of 6 committees, and usher for 17 years.

In 2013, after being diagnosed with macular degeneration, Marjorie made the decision to write a book about her parents, who had both served separately in the war zone of France in World War 1. Her mother was serving as a member of the Smith College Relief Unit, a group of Smith College alumna who aided in humanitarian relief work before and after World War 1. Her parents had written over 1200 letters to each other, which became the memoir “Pidge and Jamie,” published in 2016 and profiled in USA Today.

Marjorie’s great passion was travel, and before she died, she had visited 106 countries, all 50 states, all but 1 Canadian province and had taken 82 trips out of the country which included 40 cruises on small ships - her favorite way to travel.

Marjorie is survived by her daughters Heather Leigh Douglas (Noel Smith) of Sparkill, NY and Sandi Douglas-Parker (Todd Parker) of Arlington, Va., son Robert Jamison Douglas (Swati Dave) of Port Saint Lucie, Fl. and grandchildren Alyssa Lane Carlee Battaglia (John), Megan Marjorie Carlee Donahue (Stephen), Kira Kathleen Carlee, Holly Jamison Parker, Devon Walton Parker, Justin Henry Douglas, Madison Lee Douglas, and great-grandchildren Brenton John and Lennon Leigh Battaglia.

A memorial service will be held at Palisades Presbyterian Church, 117 Washington Spring Road, Palisades, NY 10964 on Saturday June 20th at 11AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in her memory to her favorite charities: Last Chance for Animals https://www.lcanimal.org/ or Earth Justice https://act.earthjustice.org/
