Marjorie Ann Kopp Bernstein, 91, a longtime resident of Stamford, Connecticut, and later of Sarasota, Florida, and Dacula, Georgia, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born on January 7, 1935, in York, Pennsylvania, she was raised by her loving mother, Agnes, alongside her siblings, Camille and Raymond.
Marjorie's love of the arts began early — she studied dance and theater and later learned piano, singing on countless occasions. She pursued a career as an executive buyer in the clothing industry and met her late, adoring husband, Samuel E. Bernstein, at his New York City women's sportswear office.
Known for her empathetic heart, generous spirit, and incredible work ethic, Marjorie continued working after moving to Stamford in the early 1970s while also volunteering with Meals on Wheels, the Stamford Garden Club, and serving as president of the Temple Sinai Sisterhood. She was celebrated for her neighborhood "progressive dinner parties" and her gift for nurturing lasting friendships.
A lifelong learner, Marjorie returned to school later in life and proudly graduated from the University of Connecticut in the early 1990s. She was a devoted practitioner of Iyengar yoga for over 35 years, embracing its discipline and mindfulness as an essential part of her life. However, her most cherished title was "Nana" to her adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Karyn; grandchildren Zephyr, Leaf, and Hayley; two great-grandchildren; her stepdaughter, Janeane, and her grandchildren Tovia and Eliana; as well as many nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Margie.
She lived a life of purpose and meaning and was deeply cherished by her family.
Arrangements are under the care of Smith Memory Chapel in Winder, Georgia.
In her memory, follow her advice: make your bed, eat more chocolate, plant a garden, practice yoga, and be good to yourself. Her warmth, wisdom, and vibrant spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
