Mark Stewart Angeja passed away peacefully at home on February 14th, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 71 years old.

Mark was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was born to Charles and Geraldine Angeja on April 3rd of 1954. He is survived by his loving wife, Annaliza Angeja; his first daughter, Brandee Vera; and his son, Joseph Angeja and daughter, Alana Bumgarten. He also lovingly embraced Annaliza’s daughters, Victoria Renee Gonzales and Yvonne Greigo, as his own. his brothers Steve Angeja and Gilbert Angeja; his sisters Laura Sixtos and the late Charlene Keaton. Family meant everything to Mark, and he made sure everyone around him felt it.

Mark proudly served as an Oakland Police Officer for 27 years after graduating from the Oakland Police Academy in 1977. Being a police officer wasn’t just a job to him — it was a calling. He lived his life with integrity, strength, and honor. In 2000, he received the department’s highest distinction when he was named Police Officer of the Year, an achievement he was incredibly proud of. After retiring from Oakland Police, he continued serving his community with the Alameda County Narcotics Task Force for four more years.
Outside of his career, Mark’s greatest joy was his family. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him endless pride and happiness. He loved camping trips, time outdoors, and simply being surrounded by the people he cared about most. Whether around a campfire or at a family gathering, Mark was happiest when everyone was together.

He was a devoted member of his church and rarely missed an opportunity to serve. From volunteering to participating in men’s ministry, Mark showed up wholeheartedly. His faith guided his life, and he gave generously of his time and heart.

Mark was loving, charitable, and deeply genuine. He was truly one of a kind — steady, loyal, and always there when you needed him. He leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, and family that will continue for generations.

He was one of one, and he will be greatly missed.
