Mark “Marvy Mark” Carley
Mark Kevin Carley, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly after a sudden illness. Born on March 31, 1960, Mark lived a life defined by energy, curiosity, humor and a 'wise-guy way' that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
From an early age, Mark was a natural athlete and competitor. Growing up in Westerville, Ohio, he excelled in baseball and track and became a varsity cross-country letterman as a freshman at Westerville South High School, an achievement reflecting both his endurance and determination.
Mark was also widely known for his creativity and personality. During high school he became the lively voice behind the daily morning announcements on Radio 110, branding himself “Marvy Mark.” His wit and spirited delivery made him a memorable presence to classmates and teachers alike.
He continued his education at Ashland College in Ohio, graduating with honors before serving overseas in the United States Army. After returning home, Mark pursued further studies and again graduated with honors from The Ohio State University and the College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California.
Mark worked decades in 'security', his final position was within The State of Ohio Highway Patrol, where he was known for his reliability and dedication.
Never one to follow an ordinary path, Mark also bicycled across the United States, signing the visitors’ book in all 48 continental states along the way. His stories and unforgettable antics remain part of the memories shared by those who knew him, reflecting a man who lived life fully and never slowed down.
Mark is survived by his older brother Milton and Sandy Carley of Indiana; his younger brother Mitch and Amy Carley of Texas; and his nephews, Max and Travis, Aunt Karen and Uncle Jerry of FL and their beautiful families.
Services will be arranged by Mooreland of Westerville OH. With respects being performed at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. The Ohio Highway Patrol will be respecting his honorable service within the organization.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mark’s memory to any local cat shelter or animal welfare organization.
