Mark Thomas Mayhew
March 22, 1967 - December 27, 2025
Mark Thomas Mayhew went home to be with our Lord unexpectedly on December 27, 2025, at the age of 58. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring, details will be provided at a later date.
Mark's first and greatest love was music. A skilled and passionate musician, he was known for his unforgettable "sick" drum beats, natural rhythm, and devotion to rock and roll. A devoted rocker, Mark played in several local bands and wrote many pieces of music with his lifelong best friend, John Querermus. Music was his refuge—a place to unwind, find comfort, and connect. In his early twenties, Mark proudly worked as a guitar technician for the band Great White, an experience he cherished deeply. Nothing brought him more joy than jamming, laughing, and creating music with those he loved.
Mark was the kind of person who could instantly lighten a room. He was incredibly funny, especially when he sensed tension, and had a unique sense of humor that made people feel at ease. He never cast a judgmental eye and made everyone feel welcome. A true protector of the underdog, Mark was a great listener who helped those close to him through difficult times—sometimes by offering gentle advice, and other times by delivering the honest truth that only a true friend could give. His words were never meant to hurt, only to help. He walked through life side by side with those he loved, always there in times of need or simply to laugh together. His laugh was unforgettable, and he made those around him laugh harder than anyone.
Where Mark truly shined was with children. They adored him, and he had a remarkable ability to connect with them on their level. He would get down on the ground to play, explore every corner of a playground, and most importantly, make each child feel like they truly mattered. One of his greatest joys in recent years was spending time with his "adopted" granddaughter, Avalynne—giving her tractor rides, playing guitar with her, and creating moments filled with love and laughter.
Beyond music, Mark had an avid love for motorcycles. In his younger years, he spent as much time as possible on two wheels, fueled by an adventurous spirit that followed him throughout his life.
In later years, Mark found peace in a quieter life in Decatur, Michigan, where he lived with his girlfriend, Chavala. He cherished the simple pleasures—fishing, gardening, and enjoying the calm of the outdoors. He took pride in his work as a Cultivation Technician in Cassopolis, Michigan, where he was valued for his dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic.
Mark was preceded in death by his biological parents, along with several beloved family members and dear friends. He is now reunited with them in heaven.
Those who knew Mark from childhood knew him as a brother in every sense of the word. A lifelong friend to many since grade school, he will be deeply missed for his smile, his laughter, his loyalty, and his heart. Mark's music, humor, kindness, and adventurous soul will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
May he be at peace now, and may his soul forever rest.
