Mark J. McCarty, of New York City and Aiken, South Carolina, died on January 20, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on December 19, 1946, in New York City to H.J. and Barbara McCarty. He attended Niagara Military Academy and served four years in the United States Air Force. He later worked in the family business, H.J. McCarty & Son, before establishing The Garden Room, a retail and wholesale garden design business on Lexington Avenue in New York City.
Mark was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his sister, Barbara M. Bluestone. He is survived by his devoted wife, Paddy Ann Higgins Burns and her two daughters, Cawthra Burns (Fred Bruun) and Ainsley Burns (Kevin Marshall); by his siblings H.J. McCarty III (Tia McCarty); John C. McCarty (Judith Ann McCarty); Matthew C. McCarty; Michael R. McCarty; and Eileen M. McCarty (David Magill); and by six nieces and nephews.
