Mark “Sparky” Spangenberg

Mark “Sparky” Spangenberg, 69, of Dallas, PA, passed away on October 22nd, 2025 from medical complications.

Born March 26, 1956, in Port Jervis, NY, he was the son of the late Edward and Joyce (Smith) Spangenberg. Mark graduated from Port Jervis High School and worked as a Correctional Officer in Ottisville, NY, for 27 years before retiring and settling in Dallas with his wife, Rita.

Mark will be remembered for his humor, his infectious smile, and the warmth he brought to everyone fortunate enough to know him. A lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, he enjoyed Sunday football with family and friends, especially Stretch and Woogie, with a Yuengling in hand. He loved golf, live music, and traveling to new places, and fondly remembered his years of bowling and poker nights with friends.

He is survived by his wife, Rita (Kelly) Spangenberg; daughters Kati DeGraw and Ashley Spangenberg, of Pond Eddy, NY; stepdaughter Melissa Flynn and her husband Michael Flynn, of Milford NJ; stepson George Letinski and his fiance Kristy Latimer of Forty Fort PA; grandchildren Rylan DeGraw, Adelyn DeGraw, Liam Flynn, Benjamin Tellish, Joseph Flynn, Isabella Tellish, Macie Flynn, Lily Latimer, and Thomas Latimer. He is also survived by his siblings Janet Mikulak and her husband Mike of Watertown NY; Roy Spangenberg of Montague NJ; Kim Hannigan and her husband Donald of Port Jervis, NY. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Brian DeGraw.

A viewing will be held at Evans Falls United Methodist Church, 2000 SR 29 S, Tunkhannock, PA on Saturday November 1 from 12pm to 2pm followed by a celebration of life service.

Mark’s family takes comfort in knowing his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
