Marlin Chad Hayward, 68, passed away on December 31, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona. Born on August 23, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Marlin brought joy and energy to every space he entered throughout his life.
Marlin pursued his passion for technology by attending the University of Utah, where he studied Electrical Engineering. Though just one semester shy of graduating, his natural intelligence and deep understanding of computers and electronics were evident to all who knew him. His technical skills were matched only by his vibrant personality and zest for life.
A true enthusiast of the open road, Marlin was an avid motorcycle rider for many years. He found freedom and exhilaration in riding and often shared that passion with those around him. Music was another cornerstone of Marlin's life—he loved it loud and lively. If you knew Marlin, you knew the soundtrack to his life was always playing at full volume. His love for music was infectious and added to the magnetic energy that made him the life of any gathering.
Marlin had a gift for making connections. Whether among old friends or complete strangers, he radiated warmth and positivity—his "good vibes" were unmistakable. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome and valued, earning him friendships wherever he went.
Family was central to Marlin's world. He is survived by his ex-wife: Jamie Hayward, five daughters: Tralaye Hayward, Tiffany Huggins, Alexa Burdick, Monique Hayward, and Lynzi Hayward; as well as nine beloved grandchildren: Scotland, Chandler, Norah, Kaiden, Rachel, Dylan, Luca, London, and Isabella. He cherished time spent with them—especially visits with his daughters and moments shared with his grandchildren. Marlin was so proud of each of his children and watching them each become Mothers.
Marlin is also survived by his siblings: Dana Hayward, Cooper Hayward, Julie Martell, Holly Offrett, Richard Asplund, David Asplund, Craig Asplund, and Christine McGraw. He was preceded in death by his parents: Leon and Marilyn Asplund and Laurie and Carol Hayward.
Marlin's legacy lives on through the laughter he inspired, the friendships he forged effortlessly, and the family who loved him deeply. His presence will be missed but never forgotten.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and joy in remembering a life lived fully and freely. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 24, 2026, from 03:00 PM to 06:00 PM at LDS Meeting House 12353 S 600 E Draper UT, 84020.
