Martha Crawford Brennan
November 21, 1947 - December 1, 2025
Martha ("Marty") C. Brennan, beloved partner, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on November 21, 1947, in French Azilum, Pennsylvania, Marty was the eldest of two children of Ray and Marjorie (Ennis) Crawford.
Marty spent her childhood on the family dairy farm, where she developed a lifelong love of horses and a deep appreciation for hard work. She graduated from Towanda High School in 1965 before attending Alfred University, where she earned her degree in nursing.
She began her career practicing nursing in Rochester, New York, and soon discovered her gift for teaching. In the early 1970s, she returned to Pennsylvania to teach pediatric nursing at the Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing, where her dedication to her students and teaching left a lasting impact on many entering the nursing profession.
In the mid-1980s, Marty was recruited by the Bradford County Vo-Tech to create its Licensed Practical Nursing Program. She designed the curriculum from the ground up, led the accreditation process, and established a program that continues today as part of the Northern Tier Career Center in Towanda, PA. This program remains an enduring legacy of her dedication to education and healthcare.
In the early 1990s, Marty transitioned into leadership roles outside of nursing, becoming Chief Executive Officer of Joint Education and Training, Inc., in Elmira, NY. At the time, JET operated as a non-profit organization. Under her leadership, she guided the company through a complete organizational and tax-status restructuring that successfully transitioned it into a for-profit business. She later played a key role in developing and growing the Tioga County Leadership, Schuyler County Leadership, and NY-PENN Leadership programs, initiatives that strengthened local communities by empowering civic-minded leaders.
Marty was a woman who loved deeply, including her family, her friends, her community, and her church. She served on the Athens Township Board of Directors, was a committed member of the Athens School Board, and, in her later years in Florida, served as Community Association Manager for Maximo Moorings Villas. Her faith community at King of Peace MCC brought her tremendous joy, where she served faithfully on the Tech Team and as Board Treasurer.
Marty was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Marjorie (Ennis) Crawford; her husband, John Brennan; and her former husband, James Bell.
She is survived by her loving partner, Penny Weston of St. Petersburg, Florida; her beloved daughter, Amy Brennan of Standing Stone, Pennsylvania; and her cherished grandchildren, Marisa and Jaden Wise, also of Standing Stone.
She is also survived by her brother, Charlie Crawford, and his wife Jeanne of Seneca, South Carolina; and her niece and nephew, Stephanie (Crawford) McCullough of Marietta, Georgia and Drew Crawford of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Marty is also survived by her bonus family through Penny: Amy Weston of Waverly, New York, and Tim Weston of Virginia.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 20th at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary at King of Peace MCC, 6085 Park Blvd, Pinellas Park, FL 33781, with a reception to follow. A livestream will be made available to friends and family who are not able to attend in person.
