Morton "Marty" Ossie Childress, Jr., age 78, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, in Louisville. Born on July 13, 1947, in Louisville, Marty lived a life filled with faith, family, and joy.
Marty was the devoted husband of Brenda Childress, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. Together, they raised three children: Trey Childress (Sherri-Lynn), Melanie Morris (Jimmy), and Sarah Childress (Phillip). He was a proud grandfather to Tyler, Trevor, Caleb, Lilly, Elizabeth, Isabella, Juliet, Dior, and Ky'Aire. Marty is also survived by his brother Marvin Childress; his sisters Marly French (Pat) and Diane Breuer (Bob); as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mort and Marie Childress, and his brother Mike Childress.
A man of unwavering faith, Marty dedicated much of his life to the Christian church. He served as a deacon for many years and found immense joy in worshiping with his community. His daily Bible readings were a testament to his deep devotion to God and his spiritual journey.
Marty proudly served his country as a Navy Dental Technician with his last tour being stationed in South Pole Antarctica. His military service instilled in him a sense of discipline and pride that he carried throughout his life.
An avid collector of vinyl records and antique treasures, Marty cherished preserving history. He loved exploring flea markets and embarking on adventures that combined his passion for discovery with treasured moments spent with loved ones. His love for music and antiques was only surpassed by his dedication to family gatherings.
Marty will be remembered as a kindhearted man who brought laughter and warmth to those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who loved him as they celebrate a life well-lived.
