1940 - 2026

Marvin Eugene Bloom passed away after a long illness on April 8, 2026. Marvin was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania in 1940, the younger child of Samuel and Shirley (Proskin) Bloom. The family moved to Pittsburgh when he was young, where he graduated from Allderdice High School in 1958. He then attended University of Pittsburgh, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, followed by University of Pittsburgh Medical School with induction in AOA.

After moving to the Washington, DC area, he did his internship and residency at Georgetown University Hospital. He briefly returned to Pittsburgh, where he had a fellowship in endocrinology under Dr. James Field.

He then was appointed chief resident at the Georgetown Service at DC General. In 1970, he started a private practice in Arlington, later moving to Falls Church. He retired his practice in 1997, but continued practicing medicine with the Department of the Army at Fort Myer until 2006, retiring in full.

In 1964, Marvin married the former Evelyn Blinn, the younger sister of his best friend. They enjoyed 61 years of loving marriage together. They made a home in Arlington, Virginia where they raised their two daughters, Rita (Richard Krasney) and Ellen (Howard Stregack). The joy in his life was magnified when his grandson Ethan Stregack was born. His life was enriched by many longtime friends and extended family.

His many interests included rooting for the Commanders and Nationals, travelling the world with Evelyn, and the proud accomplishment of visiting all 50 U.S. states.

He was preceded in death by his parents, older sister Devera Lucker, brother-in-law Elliott Blinn, and nephew Bill Lucker.

Private graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at King David Memorial Garden, Falls Church, VA.
