Marvin "Butch" R Topper

Marvin "Butch" R. Topper, 86, from Mesa, AZ passed away on Saturday, Sept. 13 2025.

Marvin was born July 28, 1939, in Chippewa Falls, WI to Ernest and Elizabeth (Olson) Topper. He graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1957 and attended University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He lived briefly in Tucson, AZ before moving to Minneapolis, MN and built a career as a computer programmer for Unisys for more than 35 years. On September 9, 1967, he married Judith Sykora. Together they made their home in Bloomington, MN, where they raised their two children, Melissa and Aaron. In retirement, Judy and Marv relocated to Mesa, Arizona.

Marv was an expert duplicate bridge player who valued the friendship and intellectual challenge of the game and mentored many players. He enjoyed family camping trips, coaching his children's youth sports teams, crossword puzzles, golfing and his many DIY projects. After retiring, he founded Buuthill, a cemetery software and mapping program that he created and implemented for several cemeteries in the Chippewa WI area.

His wife, Judy, passed away shortly after his death.

Marv is survived by, children, Melissa and Aaron (Cindy Hucks); grandchildren, Laurel, Westley, Jessica and Chase Topper; siblings, Anna (Richard) Suvada, Llewellyn "Pee Wee" Topper, Ben (Barb) Topper; sister-in-law, Carla Topper; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Maxine (David) Zwiefelhofer, Barbara, Wallace, Gordon, Ed and Randy Topper.

Marv wished for his ashes to be scattered on the family farm where he grew up, this will be a private event.
A joint celebration of life for both Marv and his wife Judy will be held at noon on Saturday, June 6, at the Howard Town Hall, 4052 County Highway B (corner of Hwy 40 and B), Colfax, Wisconsin 54730. This will be a potluck event, friends and family are invited to bring a dish to share and their favorite memories.
Marv and Judy will be memorialized together at Big Elk Creek Cemetery in Elk Mound WI.
