Mary Ann Seyfarth (Hartness), age 82, of Troy, Michigan, passed away peacefully on December 21 at 2:10 p.m., surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Ann was born on May 6, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, to Irene and Howard Hartness. She grew up in Detroit and later lived in Livonia and Royal Oak before settling in Troy, where she built a life centered on family, learning, and travel.

A devoted educator, Mary Ann spent over 30 years teaching in the Royal Oak School District, touching countless lives. Her commitment to her community extended beyond the classroom as President of Parents Without Partners, a Girl Scout leader, a contributor to Channel 56, and a March of Dimes block chairman.

Mary Ann found joy in life's simple pleasures—game shows, (she was even a contestant on Jeopardy in the 70's) crossword puzzles, music, and knitting. A passionate traveler, she visited England more than fifty times and cherished taking each of her granddaughters there on a special trip. A devoted theater lover, she attended over a thousand plays, primarily in London. She generously donated dozens of hand-knit blankets to local charities, and her extensive egg cup collection reflected her joyful spirit and love of meaningful treasures.

She will be remembered for her kindness, quick wit, and remarkable intelligence. Strongly independent and deeply loving, Mary Ann had a gift for making everyone feel welcomed and valued.

The matriarch of the Seyfarth family and a beloved great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, sister, and friend, Mary Ann will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Carolyn Hinckley, and her daughter-in-law, Stephanie Seyfarth.

She is survived by her son, John Seyfarth and son-in- law, John (Patricia) Hinckley; her sister, Carol (Mace) Bell; her cherished granddaughters, Olivia Seyfarth, Sarah (Kevin) Clark, Catherine (Collin) Palmer, Rachel (Drew) Squires, and her adored great-granddaughter, Lucy.
