Mary "Mimi" Chamernik (nee Jesenovec) was born on February 16, 1928 in North Chicago, IL. at home. She married Frank Chamernik in 1953 at Mother of God Church on 10th Street in Waukegan. Together they raised three wonderful children, and in 2003 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends. She was a longtime member of Mother of God Church until its closing in 1991 to merge with Queen of Peace Church which she was a founding member, and most recently a member of St. Patrick Church in Wadsworth, IL after moving to Beach Park in 2018.

Mary was also a devoted member of St. Mary #79 KSKJ Life, where she served as a lodge officer for over 40 years. Her life was filled with faith, family and pride in her Slovenian heritage. Mary cherished the history and culture of KSKJ Life, and her lifelong dedication to community service continues to inspire all who knew her. She was also the last remaining graduate from the class of 1946 Holy Child High School. Her devotion to the Chicago Cubs finally paid off when she witnessed their 2016 World Series Championship.

After raising her children, she was asked by her family physician, Dr. Kompare to come and work for him of which she did until he retired, and then stayed on to work as Office Manager for Dr. Mila Kyncl.

Mary also loved her Chicago Bulls, Polka music, making occasional trips to the Casino, being part of activities in her community, playing Balina and Bingo, and being a substitute at Bunco. At 97, Mimi still enjoyed putting together 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku and more. She loved to laugh and having a wit that was always right on cue. She lived life to the fullest to say the least, and may have been the youngest 97 year old you will ever have met.

She is survived by her three children; Bernard (Patti) Chamernik, MaryLou Stefanick, and Robert (Lisa) Chamernik. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ryan Connelly, Dr. Brett (Victoria) Chamernik, Rachael Connelly, Michael Chamernik, Marcus (Nicole) Chamernik, Austin Chamernik, great grandchildren Liam Connelly, Camden, Clara, and Leo Chamernik, nieces and nephews, and dear family friend Dr. Mila Kyncl.
