Our mother, Mary Patricia Doria (née Kennedy), 85, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, in Castle Rock, Colorado, surrounded by family.
Born April 28, 1940, Mary grew up in a modest thatched-roof house nestled upon the rolling farmland of Drumboghill, County Donegal, in Ireland’s rugged northwest. She shared this lively household with her parents and eight siblings, gentle Aunt Maggie, and a cousin or two all working together to make ends meet.
At sixteen, driven by independence and the need for work, Mary left home and joined her brothers in Greenock, Scotland. In 1960, she packed her bags and headed for America, where she built a lasting and prosperous life.
Mary met Carl Doria in New Rochelle, New York - a connection that would blossom into a sixty-year marriage. Together, they spent fifty plus years in New Milford, Connecticut, where Mary worked for more than three decades as a nurse’s aide at the local hospital. She was a dedicated caregiver who valued those she served.
Mary’s laughter rang out loud, her stories were big, her generosity was boundless. And, like her mother before her, Mary’s great power was a steadfast, selfless empathy towards others. A day would not go dark without the touch of her most caring and generous spirit.
Mary is survived by her children, Steve (Teresa) Doria and Laura (Mitch) McGovern; grandchildren Kelan, Garret (Sophia), John, Jess (Robbie), and Tara; great-grandson Dean; and brothers Michael (Breege) and Patsy (Kath). She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends throughout Ireland, the United Kingdom, and beyond.
She was predeceased by her husband Carl; parents Mick and Sarah; siblings Oliver, John, Bridie, Eddie, Jimmy, and Brian; niece Maureen; and, parents-in-law John and Josephine.
Mom, we love you and thank you. Slán go fóill.
